About

Discover the joy of drawing with a dip pen — and see just how much character it can bring to your line and wash paintings.

There’s something wonderfully responsive about a dip pen. Unlike a fine liner, the line changes with the pressure of your hand, giving you thick and thin marks, unexpected textures and a lovely sense of movement. You can also change inks as often as you like, opening up a whole world of colour and experimentation.

In this playful one-day workshop, we’ll explore a variety of nibs, glass dip pens and even make our own drawing tools. You’ll experiment with expressive mark-making before bringing your favourite marks together with watercolour washes to create lively, impactful images.

Whether you’re completely new to line and wash or already enjoy it, there will be plenty to discover. And yes, there may be a little ink under your fingernails — but that’s part of the fun!

Friday 16 October 2026 | £107

All materials, tea and coffee are provided. The workshop takes place at beautiful Micklems Farm in Knowl Hill, Berkshire, a relaxed and welcoming setting for a day of creative exploration.

You might also enjoy Line & Wash on 15 October, or Line & Wash Animal Portraits on 20 November.

Please note that full joining instructions will be emailed to you 3-4 weeks ahead of the workshop. If you have any questions the FAQs should help, but don’t hesitate to get in touch with me at [email protected]

Come and play with pens, inks and washes — and discover how much more expressive your line can become.
