When we visited Costa Rica seeing scarlet macaws and toucans were at the top of my hoped-for sightings and we were lucky enough to see both – alongside the rarer green macaw. I didn’t realise, but they are the largest parrot in the world. Sadly, humans and the pet trade are huge threats to them.
This beauty was painted in watercolour with ink line work to capture the explosive energy and vitality of the stunning bird.
