Running greyhound

£465.00

Watercolour and ink painting of a running greyhound on canvas, finished with imitation gold leaf and framed in a handmade wooden tray framed. 30x60cm, strung and ready to hang.

This beautiful greyhound was the first in my short series of running animals and was inspired by Wilson, who used to come to my weekly art class several years ago. Wilson was not a student, but a rescued greyhound who had found a home in which he was doted upon. I was reminded of his elegance and poise, after another friend rescued two beautiful whippets. If you have never studied a greyhound’s paws, please do – they are poetry!

Greyhounds are one of the oldest purebred dog breeds. Paintings of them can be found on the walls of Egyptian tombs and remains found in Syria were dated as being around 4,000 years old.

Greyhounds are incredibly fast – faster than any other dog in the world with a top speed of 45 mph. They fall into the category of sighthounds as they use their incredible eyes to hunt animals by sight. They can see clearly for half a mile, and have 270 degrees of vision because of their narrow head and spaced-out eyes.

The painting is 30x60cm on a thin edged canvas. It is painted in ink and watercolour and then finished with imitation gold leaf. The painting has been sealed with UV protective varnish and it is framed in a handmade wooden float frame to help it stand out. It is strung and ready to hang. I am able to frame in a natural wood, black or white frame of your choice.
