35×35 cm watercolour on paper.
What can I say? I love otters. It is something about their playful nature, their beady dark eyes, echoing their round ears. Maybe it is the whiskers and the drops of water which catch on them.
There are 13 types of otter worldwide and they have the ability to close off their nostrils and ears underwater. I am not fooled by their playfulness, they are ferocious predators and loathed by many fishermen. But they hunt to eat and survive, not for sport – just saying.
I am sad to say, my otter studies have had to be restricted to wildlife parks and zoos. I know they have returned to the Thames in Berkshire near where I live, but I have never been lucky enough to see them in the wild
