Chick, chick, chicken, lay a little egg for me: watercolour on paper
This is just ridiculous but there are currently 25.9 billion chickens living in the world, according to the latest data from the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). That is quite mind blowing. We take chickens so for granted, so I wanted to celebrate how beautiful they are.
This girl is looking good and she knows it!
Though we don’t have backyard chickens at the moment, we did for many years. There is a huge pleasure in opening the door to be met by an excited stampede in the hope you have something tasty for them. They would hitch up their fluffy bloomers and leg it across the garden – cooked spaghetti being a particular favourite. The joy of picking up a newly laid egg in the palm of your hand, all warm and fresh, was wonderful. Our chickens would deign to be held and cuddled, and they made fantastic hand warmers on a winter’s day.
I miss them….
So this feisty lady, can grace your wall and remind you of the beauty in the ordinary bird, and the every day miracle that lives among us.
She is painted in watercolour on paper. She can be framed in a light oak frame should you wish (ask me for a quote), or if you prefer will be sent to you in a plain acid-free mount so that you can choose a frame to suit your decor. I care about each painting, so it will be wrapped with care.
