50x50cm ink, watercolour and collage on a wooden panel. Framed.
We are lucky enough to live in a stag beetle hotspot and get dive bombed by these amazing creatures. If we find their grubs in the garden we carefully rebury them and I have been known to help them cross the road in safety. But their numbers are declining….
I wanted the feel of an exhibition case in the museum, but also that they might wander off at any moment. The background papers include 1959s newspaper, maps, car park tickets, dictionary pages and playing cards (spades, as they are good diggers).
People find them fearsome, but I hope this will help share their fascinating nature with you.
