Two corvids wheel and play together above the distinctive landscape of Wittenham Clumps, their dark silhouettes set against the sweeping contours of the hills below, their cries fill the air.
There is something wonderfully joyful about watching birds at play, and I wanted to capture that sense of freedom and movement alongside the character of this much-loved Oxfordshire landscape. The two corvids seem to dance through the air, their flight echoing the curves and textures of the Clumps beneath them.
The painting is created using an ink resist technique, producing a striking, graphic quality reminiscent of an old woodblock print. Rather than relying on traditional washes of colour, the process creates strong areas of light and dark, expressive marks and a slightly weathered, tactile quality that gives the finished piece the feel of a found or printed image.
The artwork was painted on paper before being mounted onto board, waxed and framed, giving it a beautiful depth and a softly textured surface. It is presented in a frame and is ready to hang.
